“Off Label Art”
Visual artist Randy Humbert’s work is featured in the EAC Gallery in November
Randy Humbert
Randy Humbert is an artist based in Evansville, Minnesota, working primarily in stained glass and watercolor pencil while exploring new possibilities in mosaics.
Raised in Crystal, Minnesota, Randy takes an open-ended approach to art, following his curiosity wherever it leads.
His interest in stained glass began with his wife Susan, a quilter who occasionally created “stained glass” quilts. Her work prompted him to wonder what would happen if he reversed the idea and brought quilt patterns into glass. His first successful piece was a four-inch red, white, and blue block. Following Susan’s passing, his creative explorations became an increasingly meaningful part of his life.
Randy describes his eclectic work as “Off Label Art.” Rather than focusing on one subject or style, he begins with a question: “I wonder if this will work?” Sometimes the answer is yes; sometimes, as he readily admits, it is an emphatic no.
That willingness to experiment extends to projects such as restoring a mosaic-tiled concrete garden bench, learning as he went.
With humor and an unassuming outlook, Randy continues to discover what he can make. His hope for those who encounter his artwork is simple: that it makes them smile.
This exhibition will also feature pieces by Randy’s brother, Brian Humbert.
Brian Humbert
Brian Humbert began painting in junior high, discovering a way to share his personality and perspective through art. His ninth-grade tempera painting, The Three Gossips, earned an A in 1964—“of course,” as he recalls with a smile.
During the 1970s, Brian explored intaglio printmaking at the University of Minnesota, creating prints from designs etched into metal. Although he tried oil painting, acrylic became his preferred medium.
Quiet and introverted, Brian found in art a way to express what words sometimes could not. His work offers a glimpse into his feelings, humor, and view of the world, giving him a meaningful way to connect with others and feel seen.
This Exhibition runs from November 6 through November 28 and may be seen during regular Gallery hours on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. or by special appointment.
