Something New, Something Fun
Join us as Bryan Wyneken coaches a beginner/intro class of traditional Celtic community dances. These are similar to traditional American Square Dancing but do more with rows and circles and are much less complex than the Western ("Club") Square Dancing. And what better time to learn than before St. Patrick’s Day?
The method will be taught by video instructions followed by dance-along videos made at actual community dance (Ceilidh) events. A Ceilidh (pronounced KAY-lee) is a traditional Scottish and Irish social gathering featuring folk music, dancing, and storytelling.)
Celtic Folk Dance is an accessible (if you can walk, you can dance") genre, there is great music, it is very family friendly, fun, and steeped in traditions that remain relevant to modern folk dancing.
There is no charge for this event, but attendance is limited. To register or for more information, contact Bryan at: wynekenb@gmail.com
Bryan Wyneken lives in Battle Lake and attended a folk-dance club while going to school in Wales. He has facilitated this class at Battle Lake Community Arts Center and assisted with a Nordic Dance class there as well. He is coached by his overseas tutor, Paul Young, who is a Ceilidh Caller and musician.
