Grants Bring Good!
Creativity Fostered Through a Grant
Evansville Arts Coalition has been awarded a $7,820 Spring Legacy Organization Grant from Lake Region Arts Council. This grant allows Evansville Art Center to launch three incredible artistic projects! The first is happening this week with an Artist-in-Residence Program bring Deacon Warner to Brandon-Evansville Elementary School.
Stop Action Artist Deacon Warner at the Brandon-Evansville Elementary
From October 6 through October 10, Warner will be teaching the 4th and 5th graders about stop motion animation! Students will work on their Chromebooks using the app Stop Motion Studio to create individual and group projects.
Resident Artist Deacon Warner
Deacon Warner has taught filmmaking to youth in the Twin Cities since 2007. As Youth Programs Director at FilmNorth in Saint Paul he led after school programming, summer camps, in-school residencies and professional opportunities. Before leading the youth program at FilmNorth, Deacon was a social studies teacher at North High in Minneapolis and the co-founder of the Polar Producers, an after school documentary filmmaking program for Minneapolis high school students.
As an independent filmmaker, he has produced and directed a number of short documentaries including the award winning Bee-Sharp Honeybee, Peaceful Warriors: on the road with Vets for Peace and Literacy for Freedom: Empowering Black Boys in MN. His first feature film, The Co-op Wars, premiered at the 2021 Minneapolis St Paul International Film Festival and is currently streamable at TPT.org.
Creative Technology at its Finest!
At Brandon-Evansville Elementary, he is spending one hour each day with Mrs. Bosma’s 4th grade class, Mr. Perleberg’s 4th grade class, Mrs. Boersma’s 5th grade class and Mr. Anderson’s 5th grade class. Ahead of time, Tech Coordinator, Kasi Sieling was kept busy making sure all the Chromebooks had the Stop Motion Studio on them. Afterward files will be transferred using Google Classroom. Fine uses of technology for these students to learn!
The students will showcase their projects for the community on Tuesday, October 14 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Evansville School in the big gym. Everyone is invited to come see, support, and cheer on the students in their completed work and new skills learned.

LRAC Provides, EAC Brings It!
Evansville Arts Coalition Board Members are beyond grateful to LRAC for their continued support as we work to bring more creativity, color, and connection to our community through the arts. Stay tuned—there’s so much more to come!
These activities are made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from Lake Region Arts Council thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage fund.
