Stelton Lights up the Gallery

“American Light”

Al Stelton’s exhibit, “American Light” has been a bright spot on the EAC exhibit calendar.  This is Al’s first time showing his work at Evansville Art Center and it has been nothing short of fabulous.  He currently lives in Buffalo, Minnesota and we are so grateful he accepted our invitation to show his work here.

Self-taught, with a Passion for Excellence

Al is a self-taught artist accomplished in several mediums, currently working in oil paint. His artistic abilities surfaced during his formative years drawing, doodling, and later painting on a variety of surfaces. His artwork grew into a passion that continues today. Researching his subject matter, attention to every detail, from the composition, to rendering painting in full detail, Al strives to produce a high-quality painting. Subject matter is no problem, tackling any subject from portraits to wildlife, to western fare—he excels at the challenge of getting it right. Growing up in a small community prepared him for his artistic journey, close to wildlife, nature, always observing, paying attention to the harmony of his world around him.

Artistic Strength

Strength of body and mind plays an important part of his artistic world. Al believes that daily workouts keeping your body in tune, keeps your mind sharp. This goes a long way toward keeping your passion in your forefront. Al feels that if his body is working well, he can concentrate on producing quality artwork without distractions. The old saying 'strong body, strong mind' is really true.

From the Artist Himself

“The need to fulfill creative urges is just about the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have just the greatest time when I’m working at my easel. The only thing better is the research leading to the painting or maybe the anticipation of the end results. The charge that I get from it keeps me going. I like painting plein air style, as well as painting in the studio. My subjects include just about anything from the figure to landscapes. I’m accomplished as a portrait artist rendering portraits in oil on canvas. I paint in both acrylic and oil paint mediums. This gives me the confidence to try almost anything to render the look or idea I’m after.

Photography is my joy; it allows instant gratification (quick fix if you will). The pursuit of painting research or just taking good photos for fun can be exhilarating. I do take photography seriously and I travel intensely in search of subject matter for both my painting and photography.”
